OUR WORK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP) is a government think-tank affiliated with Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. We focus on the following areas:
Research
- Conduct indepth studies on international economic and political issues
- Publish and disseminate scientific research works on international economic and political issues.
Government Advisory
- Review socio-economic development programs, plans and projects at the request of ministries, departments, localities and Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
- Deliver scientific advisory services and expertise on economic and political matters.
Training
- Provide advanced training for experts, specialists, professionals in the area of international economic and political issues.
- Offer undergraduate, postgraduate and human resource development in the fields of international economic and political issues.
International Cooperation
- Promote international cooperation in research, training, and exchanges of ideas and research outcomes with other research institutions and academia.
- Disseminate scientific knowledge, scientific findings and publications on international economic and political issues.

Division of International Economic Studies
Function: To study theoretical and practical frameworks related to international economics at global, regional, and national levels; and analyze the interactions between international economic issues and Vietnam, with the focus of international investment, trade, and finance.
Research Focus Areas:
- Theoretical framework of international economics
- Contemporary international economic issues
- Current and future trends in international economic issues
- National and regional strategies and policies on international economic issues
- Impacts of international economic issues on Vietnam and policy recommendations.
- Vietnam’s progress in international economic integration.
Division of International Institutions and Integration Studies
Function: To study theoretical and practical frameworks related to international economic models, institutions, and integration, which include national, regional, and international economic institutions; the establishment and development of international economic institutions; the interdependence among national economies and regional and global economic institutions; and the relationship between international institutions and Vietnam’s economic integration.
Research Focus Areas:
- Economic institutions and international integration issues.
- Theories and practices of international economic models, traditional institutions reforms, and prospects of new institutions.
- Performance of international organizations such as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other non-governmental organizations.
- Development experiences and economic model transformations
- Vietnam’s challenges in international economic integration and connectivity, and policy recommendations.
Division of International Politics and Security Studies
Function: To study theoretical frameworks related to international politics and security, and analyze major political trends, international conflicts, foreign policies, and the dynamics of global political systems.
Research Focus Areas:
- Theoretical frameworks of international politics and security
- Contemporary issues of international politics and conflicts
- Non-traditional security issues in relation to traditional political and security issues
- Current and future trends in global political dynamics and international security issues
- Development strategies, foreign affairs strategies, and security-defense strategies of major powers in relation to global and regional dynamics
- Development strategies, foreign affairs strategies, and security-defense strategies of emerging economies and neighboring countries in relation to global and regional dynamics
- Influencing factors, relations, and interactions between major powers in relation to global and regional dynamics
- Political aspects of international economic relations issues and trends
- Political institutions, experiences in personnel selection and training by political parties, and the role of ruling parties in socio-economic development of nations and economies

Division of Global Development Studies
Function: To study theoretical and practical frameworks related to global development, evaluate policies and policy adjustments on global development issues, and propose relevant policy recommendations for Vietnam.

Vietnam Journal of World Economics and Politics
Vietnam Economic Review
Vietnam Journal of World Economics and Politics (Vietnamese version) and Vietnam Economic Review (English version) are peer-reviewed journals published by the Institute of World Economics and Politics, providing coverage of high-quality research on international economic and political issues, new ideas and opinions on international economic and political issues, including those of Vietnam.
Function:
- Publish research findings on international economic and political issues
- Introduce theoretical advancements and phenomena related to international economic and political issues, including those of Vietnam
- Analyze the performance of the global economy, international economic relations, international politics and security, and the development experiences of countries worldwide.
General Administrative Office
Function:
- To advise and assist the board of directors in human resources management; financial and accounting administration; filing, archive management and logistics; organizational apparatus; security and fire prevention, etc.
- To advise and assist the board of directors in research administration, international cooperation and communication, particularly proposing research and international cooperation plans in short, medium and long-term, updating information on training programs, conferences and workshops, managing logistics for conferences and scholar exchanges, etc.
